A statement from Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak on the death of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon:

“Despite knowing he had spent the last eight years of his life in a coma, hearing of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s passing nonetheless brought sadness and reflection.

“No one stood taller or stronger in the defence of Israel than Ariel Sharon.

“On behalf of my entire PC Caucus, I wish to express my condolences to his friends and family, and especially to the people of Israel who are today mourning his death.

“In a statement earlier today, Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke of how Canada values its ‘long-standing relationship with Israel, which is based on shared values, common interests and strong political, economic and social ties.’

Ariel Sharon was indeed the “architect” of the modern-day Israel. His place in world history is significant and undeniable, both of a defender of his beloved country and as an ally of democratic freedom, human rights and the rule of law inherent in both.”
