Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition on Yom HaShoah

The Leader of the Official Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement on Yom HaShoah:

“Throughout the month of May, Canadians across the country mark Jewish Heritage Month– an official recognition of the contributions that Jewish Canadians have made to our country.

“Jewish communities across Canada have played an integral role in all areas of Canadian society for decades – particularly following the Second World War. Today, Canada is home to one of the largest and most actively engaged Jewish populations in the world – a strong and vibrant community that continues to contribute to our country’s growth and prosperity.

“This year, we are happy to celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and Israel. Our friendship with Israel is deep and meaningful. Our country has always been one of the strongest voices against antisemitism on the world stage.

“Jewish Heritage Month provides the opportunity for Canadians of all backgrounds to learn about the profound history of Jewish people and their fortitude in the face of adversity. This month also provides Canadians the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate Jewish culture, cuisine, arts, and faith, and to ensure that future generations can continue to learn about the inspirational example set by Jewish Canadians.”
