Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition on Yom Kippur

The Leader of the Official Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement on Yom Kippur:

“This evening, Jewish families in Canada, Israel and around the world will mark the beginning of Yom Kippur, the annual Jewish Day of Atonement.

As one of the most solemn and holy days of the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur offers an opportunity for personal introspection, growth, and a look towards new beginnings. By fasting, immersing oneself in deep prayer, and abstaining from work, those observing will have the chance to remove themselves from the mundane and search for meaning in the three core values of Yom Kippur: prayer (tefillah), charity (tzedakah), and repentance (teshuvah).

Yom Kippur is an occasion for spiritual growth that inspires many Canadians to bring positive and healthy change to our Canadian society

To Canada’s Jewish community and all of those observing Yom Kippur, I wish you a meaningful fast.

G’mar Chatima Tova”
