Chanukah Greetings from the Prime Minister
It is my distinct pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to members of the Jewish community in Canada as you celebrate Chanukah.
This year, the celebration of the miracle of Chanukah has a special poignancy. Chanukah is a commemoration of overcoming adversity and oppression through the divine light of faith. As we witnessed in the recent Mumbai terrorists attacks, darkness still pervades in many places in the world.
In Canada, we are truly blessed that the light of hope symbolized by the menorah burns brightly. Our harmoniously pluralistic society welcomes people of all faiths in the spirit of respect and mutual understanding. In every field of endeavor, our country has been immeasurably enriched by the contributions of Jewish Canadians. Together, we are building a stronger and more prosperous country and brightly shining the light of hope to lift the darkness of intolerance and oppression in the world.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, please accept my best wishes for a memorable and meaningful celebration.
Chag Chanukah Sameach!
The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, P.C., M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada
