Canada-Israel Committee National Chair Marc Gold has called for Liberal Party Interim Leader Bill Graham and the Liberal caucus to formally censure MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj and immediately relieve him of his position as Deputy Foreign Affairs critic. Gold deplored Mr. Wrzesnewskyj for his outrageous comments regarding Hezbollah and his accusation that Israel is a state sponsor of terrorism and guilty of war crimes.
“Mr. Wrzesnewskyj betrays a profound ignorance of the facts and a distorted view that confuses the arsonist with the firefighter by suggesting that Israel’s accidental shelling of Q’ana is anything other than an example of the tragic consequences that accompany all conflicts. There is a world of difference between misdirected or errant bombs on the one hand, and Hezbollah’s intentional launching of almost 4,000 rockets directed at Israeli civilian population centres.”
Mr. Gold continued: “Hezbollah, like its Palestinian cousin Hamas, has been identified as a terrorist entity by Canada alongside scores of our traditional allies, both for its rejection of Israel’s right to exist and its long and horrendous inventory of terrorist attacks throughout the world. A terrorist organization is always at the core of the problem, never part of the solution; this merits no consideration by Canada or any other civilized state. For Mr. Wrzesnewskyj to draw a moral equivalence between Israel and such outlawed terrorist organizations is a gross affront to basic Canadian values.”
Mr. Gold indicated that the CIC expects the Liberal caucus to act on this matter when it convenes in Vancouver tomorrow for its National Caucus.
