Ottawa – Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff made the following statement today:
"On Yom HaShoah, we remember a crime against humanity whose horror stands through time as a stark reminder of man’s capacity for evil. We also remember the courage of those who survived, and we honour those who still live among us.
We remember the righteous among the nations, who risked their own lives to save others.
On Yom HaShoah, as Canadians, we pay tribute to the men and women of our armed forces, who liberated Europe from Nazi tyranny. And we recall, with enduring shame, the indifference of "none is too many."
We will always remain vigilant against all forms of hatred, racism and discrimination. We will keep faith with the memory of the six million, and the lives of the survivors. And we will look forward with hope to a future where the world knows the serenity of tolerance and peace."
