Statement by Official Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

On January 27, 1945, soldiers of the Ukrainian Front opened the gates of Auschwitz Concentration Camp and liberated the largest Nazi concentration camp, revealing to the world the tragedy of the Holocaust.

The horrors found that day by Allied soldiers at Auschwitz-Birkenau still haunt humanity 68 years later.

Today, New Democrats join people around the world marking Yom HaShoah and honouring the memory of the millions of innocent people who suffered and were murdered simply because they were Jewish.

We educate our children about this evil chapter in our history and teach them to remain vigilant in our work against anti-Semitism, racial intolerance and all forms of discrimination.

Never again.
