The Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Rona Ambrose, issued the following statement to mark the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year:
“This evening, the setting of the sun will mark the beginning of Rosh Hashanah and the first of the High Holy Days. In Canada and all around the globe, Jewish people will come together with family and friends to take part in time honoured traditions like eating apples and honey, while listening to the shofar call bring in the New Year.
“This period of observance allows an opportunity for all Canadians to recognize the vast contributions of the Jewish community in fostering a peaceful, pluralistic and prosperous Canada. I hope all Canadians take this opportunity to recognize the immense social, economic, and artistic contributions of the Jewish Community in shaping our great country.
“On behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada, I would like to wish the Jewish Community in Canada and across the world a joyous Rosh Hashanah and a very sweet New Year!”
“Shana tova u’metuka.”
