The Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Rona Ambrose, issued the following statement on the National Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony:
“Today, Holocaust survivors, Veterans and MPs from all sides of the House of Commons came together to honour the victims of the Holocaust.
Every year we greet the survivors, fewer each year, with respect and gratitude for the lessons they share with us and we swear to those who were so cruelly taken from their homes and their families that never again will we allow these crimes to be repeated.
Canadians must fight anti-Semitism in every malignant form it takes; why we must resist every vile attempt to delegitimize Israel, and why, above all, we must defend Israel’s fundamental right to exist as a homeland for the Jewish people.
We must re-dedicate ourselves to the timeless values that Canada will always stand for: freedom, democracy, religious tolerance, the rule of law, and the universal and inalienable dignity of every man and woman.
And we must resolve to act on these values, for a world in which never again is a promise that will never be broken.”
