Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee
Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition on Yom Kippur

The Leader of the Official Opposition and Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Rona Ambrose, issued the following statement marking Yom Kippur:

“This evening marks the beginning of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement which is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

At sundown, Yom Kippur will begin with the holy Kol Nidrei service which ushers in a period of introspection and repentance. This Day of Atonement is a time of humility and reflection for Jewish people as they observe this day by fasting and prayer.

In Canada and all around the world, Jewish people will come together with family and attend synagogue to listen for the single blow of the shofar, a trumpet made from a ram’s horn, which marks the conclusion of the fast and the end of Yom Kippur.

On this special day, I hope Canadians take this opportunity to recognize our common values and the immense contributions the Jewish community has made in shaping a more peaceful and prosperous Canada.

On behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada, I would like to wish the Jewish people everywhere best wishes as they observe this most solemn and sacred holiday.

G’mar Chatimah Tovah.”
