Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement to mark the beginning of Passover:
“On behalf of my family, I would like to send our best wishes to all those celebrating Passover in Canada and around the world.
“This evening, Jewish families and friends will gather around the Seder table to retell the story of the Israelites’ Exodus from Egypt and to commemorate their move towards freedom.
“As we mark this celebration, we are reminded of the sacrifices that are still being made for freedom around the world. As Canadians, we are also reminded that the freedoms we cherish must never be taken for granted, and we renew our commitment to continue promoting freedom globally.
“I wish the Jewish community a peaceful and joyous Passover.”
