Today, Tuesday, April 20, 2010, is the 62nd anniversary of Israel’s Independence, Yom Ha’atzmaut. I want to take a moment to extend my warmest congratulations to the people of Israel and all those in St. Catharines and our country who are celebrating this day.
There is no stronger act of perseverance, determination or loyalty to one’s country than displayed by the people of Israel. Israel’s determination serves as an inspiration to all.
The opportunity to celebrate the independence of Israel is one that is both positive and tragic. Israel’s perseverance is a testament to all who believe in democracy, human rights and the rule of law. We must never forget though the atrocities of WWII and the impact they had on the Jewish race in our world.
I’m proud of the strong relationship developed between our country, our government and the people of Israel.
I hope and pray for a peaceful 62nd year and celebrations throughout the day and week.
Congratulations to Israel and all those in St. Catharines and Niagara celebrating today.
