Hon. Stockwell Day, P.C., M.P.
Minister of Public Safety
269 Laurier Avenue West
Ottawa, Canada K1A 0P8
Dear Minister Day,
The pledge by Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah to attack Jewish communities world-wide has once again brought into sharp focus the urgent need for security funding for communities at risk.
I urge you to ensure that support for security funding is made available to Jewish community centres and synagogues across the country immediately. As you know, the Jewish community already faces elevated threats from terrorism, and with today’s reports it is evident that the community must be at a heightened alert.
Communities who face additional security risks every day because they are targets of terrorism and hate-crimes must have the resources to protect their members and institutions. Participating in community life in safety should be the right of all Canadians. Funding support has to be made available to these communities.
I urge you and your government to act immediately.
Sincerely,
