The Leader of Canada’s NDP, Jagmeet Singh, on January 27, 2023, issued the following statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day:
“On the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp, we honor the memory of the more than six million Jewish people that were murdered in the Holocaust.
We also remember the five million Slavs, three million ethnic Poles, 200,000 Romani people, 250,000 disabled people and the 9,000 LGBTQI+ people who were also brutally murdered for simply existing.
Antisemitism has been on the rise, and Holocaust Remembrance Day is a moment to pledge once again to stamp it out.
Never Again needs to be active – we must confront hate whenever and wherever it appears. Each one of us has a duty to stand up to hate when it is emboldened by symbols, words and violence. But leaders bare a special responsibility to take action to ensure hate has no room to fester.
New Democrats reaffirm our unwavering commitment to counter antisemitism, and to never forget.”
