“I am pleased to join all those in the Jewish faith in Canada and around the world who, tonight at sundown, will mark the beginning of Yom Kippur – the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
Those observing will come together with friends and family to pray and fast. They will reflect upon the past year, atone for their wrong-doings, and ask for forgiveness for their sins. I know that everyone will welcome the blasts of the shofar at the end of the fast – a trumpet made from a ram’s horn – while praying for a good year to come.
I encourage all Canadians to use this time to recognize the many contributions that Jewish Canadians have made in shaping a more peaceful and prosperous Canada.
On behalf of the Official Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, I offer my best wishes to everyone in the Jewish faith as they observe this sacred day.
G’mar Chatimah Tovah.”
