The Leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, issued the following statement on Hanukkah:
“On behalf of all New Democrats, I wish all Jewish Canadians a bright and peaceful Hanukkah.
Tonight, Jewish families will come together to light the first candle on the hanukiah, and spend the next eight days lighting more candles in honour of the resilience and victory of their people who, over 8 days, fought against oppression in their struggle for religious freedom.
The Festival of Lights is a celebration of the small and big miracles of daily life. It’s also a time to remember that faith, determination and hope are powerful tools in overcoming adversity.
Hanukkah also reminds us to stand in solidarity with all those who still live with oppression and wish them light, hope, perseverance and freedom.
