Statement by the Leader of the Official Opposition on Passover

The Leader of the Official Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement on Passover:

“This evening, Jewish families in Canada, Israel and around the world will gather around their Seder tables to mark the beginning of Passover.

This eight day festival celebrates the Jewish nation’s victorious exodus from Egypt and their long-awaited liberation from generations of slavery.

Seder in Hebrew means “order”, and tonight’s festive meal is rich in symbolism and ritual, using food and song to retell the story of Passover and act as a reminder of its importance through generations of Jewish life.

For all Canadians, Passover allows us the opportunity to reflect on the freedoms that we enjoy in Canada, while reminding ourselves of all of those around the world who are still fighting for their rights.

I would like to extend my best wishes to Canada’s Jewish community as you begin your celebration with some of the most cherished traditions of the holiday.

Chag Pesach Kasher V’Sameach!”
