The Leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, issued the following statement on Yom HaShoah:
“Today it is with deep sorrow that we mark Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. Every year, we take a moment to remember the genocide carried out against the Jewish community and the systematic murder of six million human beings, killed because they were Jewish.
As we reflect upon the unimaginable, we need to recognize the truth of this genocide. Women, men and children were hunted in their own homes, and executed in concentration camps, simply because of their faith and identity.
The Holocaust transformed our perception of what human beings are capable of and remains a frightening tragedy to reflect upon.
On Yom HaShoah, as we remember these historical acts of anti-Semitism and xenophobia, we must also recommit to eliminating hatred in all its forms as it exists today.
Together, let’s make sure that such a tragedy never happens again.”
