The Hon. Candice Bergen, Interim Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and of the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Passover:
“Tonight marks the beginning of one of the most important events in the Jewish calendar. Families in Canada and around the world are about to begin an 8-day celebration to remember the Jewish people’s miraculous escape from Egypt and long-waited on liberation from slavery. They will gather around the Seder table and tell the story of Moses and the Exodus, of God’s signs and wonders, and the parting of the Red Sea.
“My thoughts are on the incredible strength and resilience of the Jewish people, who continue to celebrate their faith despite persecution throughout history. It’s devastating that anti-Semitism continues to grow here in Canada, which goes completely against who we are as Canadians.
“No one should be targeted because of their religion. Conservatives will always stand up for religious freedom and the protection of religious communities and places of worship.
“On behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada, I wish you a very happy Passover! As you celebrate with a good meal and tell ancient stories passed down through generations, may your homes be blessed and filled with joy and hope.
