The Leader of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh, issued the following statement on Yom Kippur:
“Tonight, members of the Jewish faith in Canada and around the world are gathering to observe Yom Kippur, the holiest of Jewish Holidays.
On behalf of the New Democratic Party of Canada, I would like to extend my best wishes for an easy fast to all who are celebrating this special Day of Atonement.
Yom Kippur is a solemn time for reflection, repentance, forgiveness and humility. It is also a day of hope, compassion and empathy, reminding us all of our shared Canadian values of kindness and generosity, ideals that bring communities closer together and enrich our country.
As this new year begins, may all Canadians take a moment to reflect on the past and unite in hope for a better future for all. Let’s continue working together to build a better Canada, where no one is left behind.
On this solemn holiday, we wish all Jewish Canadian families a new year filled with peace and prosperity.
G’mar Chatima Tovah.”
