The Leader of the Official Opposition and Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, Andrew Scheer, issued the following statement on Rosh Hashanah:
“This evening, Jewish families in Canada, Israel and around the world will gather with their friends and families to mark the beginning of Rosh Hashanah and the High Holy Days.
Through prayer and celebration, and the sweetness of apples and honey, Jewish communities across the world will greet a new year.
Rosh Hashanah brings a new beginning, a time for serious contemplation. For many, this is a chance for personal reflection, growth and renewal.
This year, I hope that Rosh Hashanah can act as an inspiration to reflect upon ourselves and find ways to build a more prosperous and welcoming Canada.
I would like to extend my best wishes to Canada’s Jewish community as you begin your celebration with some of the most cherished traditions of the holiday.
Shana Tova u’Metuka!”
