NDP critic for Multiculturalism, Jenny Kwan, made the following statement on the occasion of Yom Kippur:
“Tonight, as members of the Jewish faith in Canada, and around the world, gather to observe Yom Kippur, I would like to extend my best wishes on behalf of the New Democratic Party of Canada.
This Day of Atonement, the holiest of Jewish holidays, is a time for reflection, repentance, forgiveness and humility. Yom Kippur is also a day of hope, compassion and empathy, reminding us all of our shared Canadian values of kindness and generosity, ideals that help to bind communities and enrich Canadian society.
As a new year begins, may all Canadians also take a moment to reflect on the past and look to a shared future with renewed hope. Let us all commit to working together to build a better world for our children and grand-children.
On this solemn holiday, the NDP wishes all Jewish Canadian families peace and prosperity for the New Year.”
